Dr. Zhang Joined the University of Victoria (UVic) in 2017 as an assistant professor & Canada Research Chair (tier 2) (类比中国的青年千人计划专家). Before joining UVic, Dr. Zhang worked as a PhD statistician at pharmaceutical companies (Eli Lilly & Co. and AstraZeneca) in 2014-2017.

Dr. Zhang obtained his PhD (in statistics) degree in 2011 from University of British Columbia under the supervision of Dr. Raphael Gottardo and Dr. Kevin P. Murphy. And then worked as a NSERC postdoctoral fellow (2011-2013) at the Dept. of Biostatistics at Johns Hopkins University under the supervision of Dr. Hongkai Ji and Dr. Rafael Irizarry.

Dr. Zhang’s major research Interests are machine learning and bioinformatics
